FIELD SUPPORT AND COORDINATION

To provide moral and technical support to missioners, and to coordinate their common activities

Local Mission Areas

   Missionaries are sent by two’s in parishes all over the country. At present there are ten mission areas:  Burgos,Pangasinan;  Ligao City,Albay;  Sta Perpetua Parish,Cubao;  Bulalacao,Mindoro; Babag,Lapulapu,City,Cebu; Pajac,Lapulapu,City,Cebu; Mactan,Cebu;  Lidong,Polangui,Albay;    Leganes,IloIlo City;     Masinloc, Zambales

   The Director and the Field Coordinator are responsible for the selection and  preparation of local churches in which missioners are to serve, subject to the approval of the Administrative Council.

Mission areas are to be considered only upon the request of a receiving church, and only where there is evidence that the following conditions are fulfilled:

a) Demonstrable need for assistance by lay missioners;
b) Support for development of BEC on the part of the parish priest;
c) Eagerness of priest and people to reorganize the local church into BEC, openness to attitudinal changes that this will require, and commitment to continued development of BEC after the departure of missioners;
d) Moral and financial support of lay missioners by local church;
e) Participation of the Parish Pastoral Council in planning parish programs;
f) Reasonable assurance that the parish priest will not be transferred during the missioners’ term;
g) Consultation with the Bishop about the advisability of assigning lay missioners to that parish.

Foreign Mission Area

    Only those missioners who have served one full term with PCLM within the Philippines are assigned to mission overseas. Foreign missions are pursued in cooperation with Maryknoll Mission. At present we are in Kumamoto and Sapporo in Japan and Changmai and Bangkok in Thailand, Phnom Penh in Cambodia and Mitkyina in Myan Mar (Burma)

    The dream of lay missionaries to spread God’s Kingdom throughout the world is thus very much alive today.  But a new dream is again burning:  to recruit and form more lay missionaries not only for the Philippines but also for the Asia-Pacific Region.  This is inspired by Pope John Paul II’s words:  “I wish to tell you of my special desire:  that the Filipino will become the foremost missionaries in the Church of Asia.”

Area Meetings
    Meetings are to be held monthly in each area with the participation of all PCLM missioners serving in the area.  These Area Meetings are important for purposes of mutual support and camaraderie, group morale, spiritual renewal, reporting and sharing of activities, discussing PCLM matters, and recreation

Annual General Assembly
    The General Assembly is held ordinarily at the Center House in Quezon City every January. A preparatory committee composed of missioners from different areas decides on the theme and activities

Renewal Of Commitment
    Renewing Missioners are asked to get updating courses and are given sending off ritual with signing new contract in the Center House before going to their new mission assignment

Active Lay Missioners

At present there are 40 active lay missioners:

16 in local mission

12 in staff position

12 in foreign mission
